 Job Description

The Mu Phi Epsilon Bylaws state in Article V, Section 4 the International Executive Board shall appoint at the annual meeting an International Editor, at such salaries as shall be determined by the elected Officers. Section 4B states:

The International Editor shall

  1. be the editor of the Fraternity journal;
  2. attend all meetings of the International Executive Board.

The International Standing Rules further state, “the IEB shall make every effort to recruit qualified candidates who are members of Mu Phi Epsilon.”

Detailed requirements:

Skills and Experience

  • Familiarity with Mu Phi Epsilon and the world of music
  • Demonstrated editing, proofreading, and writing skills
  • Understanding of publication design, layout, and production
  • Strong computer and internet skills
  • Highly organized, self-directed, able to budget time and meet deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written

Duties

  • Solicit, seek via social media, and accept material for The Triangle, the quarterly journal of Mu Phi Epsilon, including feature articles and news about chapters and members. Plan theme and content for each issue. Edit received material. Write material, as necessary.
  • Coordinate with contributing writers and design/production team to produce each issue.
  • Carry out above functions for triennial convention program book.
  • Copy-edit other Fraternity publications & communications as requested (brochures, manuals, etc.).
  • Maintain related files and archives (physical and digital).
  • Attend triennial convention at Fraternity’s expense; recruit/hire the convention photographer and coordinate his/her work; produce daily convention newsletter.
  • Serve in advisory capacity (ex officio) on IEB; attend IEB meetings at the Fraternity’s expense.

Time and Compensation

  • Time commitment: average 10-12 hours/week (varies widely with publication cycles and meeting requirements)
  • Compensation is paid monthly. The International Editor is an independent contractor.

Equipment and Facilities

As an independent contractor, the International Editor provides his/her own:

  • Computer and printer
  • Internet service
  • Reference copy of AP Style Manual or Chicago Manual of Style
  • Workspace
